An Angel in Disguise

by T.S. Arthur

While we may wax nostalgic for what we imagine were the simpler days of the past, we often forget just how horrid life could be for far too many, particularly the poor and infirm. Imagine yourself in the mid 19th century, struggling to take care of your own. What would you do when faced with one of the millions of children in dire need?

Timothy Shay Arthur always wanted to be a writer and struggled to find his voice. His biggest successes came through his work in the temperance movement capped by the publication of his book “Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There.”

T.S. Arthur wrote a number of popular short stories for Godey’s Ladies Book and other magazines of the day. Arthur’s stories are best known for their brutal realism .
